Sex Pistols postpone North and South American tour

Sex Pistols and Frank Carter have had to push back their North American and South American tour.

The God Save the Queen icons were supposed to start the run of shows in Dallas, Texas, on 16 September, but the dates will now be moved after guitarist Steve Jones fractured his wrist.

The group shared on Instagram: “We have some unfortunate news to bring about our planned North and South American shows.”

A statement from Steve followed, saying: “I have both good and bad news. Which do you want first? The bad news is that I have broken my wrist, so sadly, we will be unable to perform for a little while. The good news is that the surgeon assured me I will be able to play guitar again soon. The other good news is I will be turning 70 tomorrow! God bless, and God save the wrist.”

The legendary punk act explained that new tour dates have not yet been arranged.

They added: “The shows will be moved and rescheduled once Steve has healed completely. Please keep an eye on local venue websites and our social channels for updates. We thank you all for the support and understanding.”

The band, which had not played in the United States since 2008 and had not toured there since 2003, revealed in March that they were returning for concerts in cities such as Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

To celebrate the announcement, they also issued a special edition vinyl of their 1978 show at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, which was set to be the opening stop of the tour, under the title Live in the U.S.A.

Still, the delay might not shock many fans, as Steve had already hinted that a return to the U.S. was coming earlier in the year.

When asked in January by NME if they would perform in the U.S. again, he replied: “We are! But nobody knows where we are playing. I do not want to spill too much. I am excited. I know the dates, so I know it is going to be great.”

The group reunited last year for a UK tour with Gallows frontman Frank Carter stepping in as singer in place of John Lydon, and Steve admitted Frank was the only frontman they even considered.

He said: “Frank was the first singer we tried, because Cookie, Glen, and I wanted to play. It just clicked instantly.

“He is so much younger than we are. He is 40, which means he has all the energy, and us old guys can jam in the back.

“It was a blast, and people loved it, and I loved seeing people have such a great time.

“I was honestly ready to give up on touring altogether. I was not bothered anymore. But with Frank, it felt effortless. We all get on so well. There is no drama. It is just pure fun.”
