Lily Allen has spoken openly about moving back to the UK while navigating life as a single mother.

The British artist recently relocated to England with her two daughters, Ethel, 14, and Marnie, 12, after returning from New York following her separation from David Harbour.

Reports of the couple ending their marriage after four years surfaced last year, alongside speculation that Harbour had been unfaithful. Allen later appeared to reference the situation through themes explored on her most recent album, West End Girl.

During the latest episode of her Miss Me? podcast, Allen reflected on rebuilding her life in the aftermath of the breakup.

“I've done quite a lot this year,” she said. “I've finished an album, I got a boob job, I had a nervous breakdown, I went into hospital for a bit, I came out, I did some podcasting for a while, then I played one of the hardest tracks in theatre and killed myself (in the role of Hedda Gabler) every night for seven weeks.”

The Smile singer went on to share how intense family life feels right now, adding, “My kids are f**king mental at the moment... They are really developing their personalities. It's just a lot. There's a lot of questions.”

Allen also spoke about her daughters, whom she shares with her former husband Sam Cooper, and how they are adjusting to their new surroundings in the UK.

“There's a lot of change in our lives at the moment,” she explained. “We've changed houses, we've changed countries, we've changed schools, and it's a lot.”

She added that her children are currently “discovering who they are” while also “grappling with some new ideas in terms of who I am”.

“The last five years, I've been a stay at home mum,” she continued. “And now I'm a single mum that has to work and suddenly has a lot of work opportunities on my plate and I'm having to travel a lot.”

Allen previously spoke last year about struggling with the upheaval in her personal life, revealing that she had spent time receiving care at a mental health facility.
