Biffy Clyro’s latest single is focused on the idea of having “faith” in the choices you make.
The group have released the track True Believer ahead of their upcoming 10th studio album, Futique, which is set to arrive on 19 September. The new record follows the band’s 2021 release The Myth of the Happily Ever After.
Frontman Simon Neil, 46, explained the meaning of the song in an interview with NME. He said: “True Believer is about faith: not religious faith, but having faith in your life decisions. Try not to doubt yourself so much. Whenever you’re in those moments to make big life decisions, you’re not as flippant as you think you are.”
He continued, “Sometimes I look back and think, ‘Why did I make that decision?’ and actually, I knew exactly what I was doing at the time. So have faith in yourself and the people you love. Love is the only thing in my life I have conditional faith in. It’s what drives my relationships and our music.”
Simon also said the band’s new album takes on bigger themes.
He explained: “Futique is an exploration of ideas, objects or relationships that exist across time. We are never aware when we do anything for the last time, and there’s a beauty and sadness within that. What will be your Futique?”
The track comes with an official visualiser that features clips from the Futique recording sessions, live shows from the summer and behind-the-scenes footage.
This new release follows a summer of huge festival appearances for the band, including TRNSMT in Glasgow, the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, two Eden Sessions shows and a series of European festivals.
The trio, which includes bassist James Johnston and drummer Ben Johnston alongside Simon, will support the album with a UK and Ireland arena tour next year, featuring a show at London’s O2 arena.
They will also play a string of acoustic performances in October to celebrate the record’s release.
Ahead of Futique, the band had already shared the singles A Little Love and Hunting Season.
Simon also spent much of 2023 and 2024 performing with his side project, Empire State B******, together with Mike Vennart.
According to promotional details from the band’s management, their 2025 tour will include support from Soft Play and The Armed.
