Ed Sheeran’s follow-up to Play is nearly complete, but fans will have to wait until 2027 to hear it.
The Azizam singer is preparing to release his new album this Friday (12.09.25), and he has revealed that the next record, Rewind, is only a few months away from being “ready to go,” though its release is still some time off.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, he explained: “I made Play and Rewind at the same time, and we finished Play first because it felt like the most exciting one.
“So Rewind is, I’d say, two months off being totally locked and loaded and ready to go.
“I guess at some point in the next 18 months it will come out.”
While Ed describes Play and Rewind as “twin albums,” he admitted they eventually developed into very different projects.
He said, “They’re very much like twin albums. But one leaned more into Indian culture, and one leaned more into nostalgia. So they veered off in different directions.”
When asked if he found it difficult to decide which tracks would be cut from Rewind, he replied: “Weirdly, no, because each song has a purpose.
“With each album, you have the songs you think are the singles, and then in the gaps, basically, you have to do purposeful songs rather than having ten singles.
“You do a song like Azizam and a song like Sapphire, but then a song like Old Phone and A Little More. I feel like they give the album a journey and purpose rather than it just being bangers.”
Earlier this week, Ed also revealed that he and his wife Cherry, along with their daughters Lyra, five, and Jupiter, three, are planning a move to America “for a while” so that the family can have a base while he tours in the United States.
Speaking on the 2 Johnnies podcast, he shared: “I’m just about to move to America. I feel like I might be the only person moving to America.
“I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”
Although Ed did not say precisely where in the US they would live, reports recently suggested he spent £9 million on a large apartment in Brooklyn, New York.
New York is already a familiar place for Ed and Cherry.
Back in 2023, the couple rented a Brooklyn apartment costing £26,000 a month while Ed was defending himself in a copyright case.
He was later cleared of claims that his song Thinking Out Loud copied Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On.
