DJ Akademiks offers Drake guidance before “Iceman” release

Drake is currently working on ICEMAN, and one thing is clear, there is a huge audience waiting for it. He has been hinting at the project for over a year now, but it still has not officially arrived. For a lot of fans, the wait has started to feel frustrating. He has released a few tracks along the way, but none of them have fully captured the moment.

Recently, the artist has been using creative ways to show that the album is getting closer. One example came at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, where he showed up with custom courtside seats designed with icicles. It felt like a clear signal that the project is nearing release. At this point though, there is still no confirmed date.

DJ Akademiks has been one of the loudest supporters of the upcoming album. Because of that, it is not surprising that he has strong thoughts on how Drake should handle the rollout. In a recent clip, he shared advice that some people might not expect.

You might assume Akademiks would want Drake to drop the album as soon as possible. Instead, he thinks the rapper should take his time and even consider waiting until next year. In his view, that strategy would wear down critics over time.

“I've given my official advice to Drake... you could drop it in 2027, I like what's going on. Stall 'em out,” Akademiks explained. “With every single day, we're having a hater reset. They're all coming back, they're like, 'Drake, I miss you.'”

It is an interesting perspective, although it feels more likely that Drake will release the album sometime in the summer or fall. He has been active in the studio, and with the hype continuing to build, it would not be surprising if he moves sooner rather than later.

There is a lot of pressure on this release. It will mark his first solo album since For All The Dogs, which came out in 2023.
