Demi Lovato has decided to cancel five upcoming concerts due to ongoing health concerns.

The Heart Attack hitmaker admitted she had taken on more than she could manage, sharing the news with fans in an emotional message on Instagram.

Addressing her loyal supporters, known as the Lovatics, Demi, 33, explained that her chronic health issues have made it clear she cannot move forward with the full 23 date It’s Not That Deep tour as originally planned.

"My Lovatics I am so excited to get back on stage this year and visit you in as many cities as I can," she wrote on Tuesday morning.

"While starting to prepare for the tour, I realized that I have overextended what may be possible."

Throughout her career, Demi has spoken candidly about her mental health journey, including living with bipolar disorder, substance use disorder, eating disorders and depression.

This week, she explained that she needs to prioritise and “protect” her wellbeing rather than push through the intense demands of a long run of live shows.

"To protect my health, and ensure I can give you my all at each show, I need to build in more time to rest and rehearse," the Sorry Not Sorry singer wrote, "and ultimately adjust to a schedule with some more time off that will allow me to handle the entire run of the tour."

Back in October, Demi revealed plans for the It’s Not That Deep tour in support of her ninth studio album, which she described as a comeback to her electronic pop sound.
