David Gilmour has shared an emotional tribute following the death of his longtime friend and fellow Pink Floyd collaborator Dick Parry.

Alongside a collection of photos showing Parry performing on saxophone, Gilmour reflected on the decades they spent making music together.

He wrote: "My dear friend Dick Parry died.

"Since I was seventeen, I have played in bands with Dick on saxophone, including Pink Floyd. His feel and tone make his saxophone playing unmistakable, a signature of enormous beauty that is known to millions and is such a big part of songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Us and Them and Money."

Gilmour also looked back on some of the pair’s later performances together, adding: "He played in the last band I had that included Rick Wright for the On An Island Tour and at Live 8 with Pink Floyd."

Parry became one of the defining musical contributors to Pink Floyd’s sound, performing saxophone parts on several of the band’s most iconic songs. His work on albums like The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here remains some of the most recognizable in rock history.

Beyond his contributions to Pink Floyd, Parry also appeared on multiple solo records by Gilmour and toured extensively with the band during the 1970s. He later reunited with the group for their massive 1994 world tour supporting The Division Bell.

Born in Kentford, Suffolk, England on December 22, 1942, Dick Parry passed away on Friday at the age of 83. No cause of death has been publicly confirmed.
