Megan Thee Stallion teamed up with 2026 Tony Awards host P!nk and a cast of Broadway favourites for a leading lady inspired take on ‘Lady Marmalade’.
The ‘Savage’ hitmaker joined P!nk on stage in New York and delivered her own version of Lil’ Kim’s verse from the iconic 2001 collaboration, which originally featured Mya and Christina Aguilera as part of the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack.
During the ceremony at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday night (June 7), the playful reworking of the track featured P!nk weaving references to some of Broadway’s biggest productions into the famous “gitchie, gitchie” refrain.
Lea Michele also made a surprise appearance despite not being among this year’s nominees, stepping in to recreate Aguilera’s powerful vocal moment from the original song and joking: “We don’t do it for the awards”. Other performers involved in the number included Broadway stars Dylan Mulvaney, Shoshana Bean, Neil Patrick Harris, and more.
The appearance marked a historic moment for Megan Thee Stallion, making her the first female rapper ever to perform at the Tony Awards. The milestone follows a difficult period that saw her leave the cast of Moulin Rouge earlier than planned after a brief hospital stay and the end of a relationship.
Megan had taken on the role of Zidler in the production and was originally expected to remain with the show for eight weeks. However, she was hospitalised after becoming “very ill” during a performance in New York and later told fans that exhaustion and pushing herself too hard had contributed to the situation.
“Last night was a real wake-up call for me,” she said at the time. “I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me. I thought I was gonna faint on stage, I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn’t.”
Her most recent album, ‘Megan: Act II’, arrived in 2024 and received a five star review from NME. Since then, she has released two new singles in 2025, ‘Whenever’ and ‘Lover Girl’, and has also revealed that she is currently “completing act three” of her album series, which is expected to arrive later this year.
More recently, the rapper joined forces with Nickelback for a wildly unexpected new Cheetos commercial.
