Westside Cowboy Unveil "Pin Up Boys" and Reveal Record Store Live Shows

Westside Cowboy have released their uplifting new single “Pin Up Boys” while also revealing a series of live performances at independent record stores.

The song is the latest preview of the Manchester band's debut album, “It Goes On,” which is scheduled for release on August 21 through Island Records. The album is available to pre order now.

“Pin Up Boys” marks the second track to be shared from the upcoming record, following last month’s lead single, “Kick Stones (The Boys),” which the band described as a slice of “mad, ’70s rock.”

Opening with Reuben Haycocks’ vocals over a stripped back arrangement, the song gradually expands into a soaring indie rock anthem, highlighting the group’s ability to blend timeless guitar driven sounds with a fresh modern approach.

Speaking about the track, the NME 100 graduates said: “‘Pin Up Boys’ was written a year and a half ago using an acoustic guitar, a drum machine sample pad and some screwdrivers as drumsticks. It is by far the longest serving song on the album and the one that we have played the most live, which was a blessing and a curse when we came to record.

“After realising this song was set in its ways, we thought the recording should be a somewhat faithful version of the live performance. We hope you get something out of it.”

“It Goes On” was produced by Loren Humphrey, whose previous work includes Geese, Cameron Winter and Wunderhorse, with recording taking place at Greenmount Studios in Leeds.

Alongside the new single, the band announced a special run of record store performances celebrating the album’s release. Tickets go on sale on Thursday, July 2. These shows will take place in addition to the band's previously announced UK and European tour.

Earlier this year, NME featured the band on The Cover, where they discussed the origins of their debut single, “I’ve Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You).”

“For us, Westside was all about bringing the fun back into the music generally,” vocalist and guitarist Reuben Haycocks said. “In a songwriting sense, we were taking everything a little less seriously. As soon as we stopped putting loads of pressure on ourselves to make something great, the stuff that came out was much more authentically us.”
