Taylor Swift has thanked Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell for putting their “time, taste, and talent” into her new Patient Zero music video.
The Shake It Off singer premiered the video with Johnson, known for Fifty Shades of Grey, during Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Swift wrote and directed the gothic ghost story, which stars her alongside Johnson and Farrell. She plays Farrell’s dead wife, who haunts his new partner, played by Johnson, in an attempt to warn her about him.
Following the premiere, Swift shared her appreciation for the cast and Oscar winning cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki, who helped bring the story to life.
“Getting to work with @chivexp was something out of a dream sequence, and I learned so much from getting to watch his genius in action,” she wrote alongside photos from the video and its production.
“I want to thank @dakotajohnson and Colin for trusting me with their time, taste, and talent (Giggling with your friend because you're twinning for an entire shoot was a new and truly delightful experience). And Colin's turn as a villain is even more impressive when you get to be around him. He's an absolute light and as kind as they come.”
She also thanked her friend Cara Delevingne, who appears as “the lusty other woman” in a party scene, along with production designer Ethan Tobman and editor Chancler Haynes.
“With the Patient Zero video, I got to explore the cinematic and literary genres I love so much. I wanted to incorporate elements of gothic ghost stories, true crime, psychological thrillers all in a setting I hadn't really shot in much,” Swift continued.
“And lastly, thank you to the @vmas for giving us a World Premiere at the place where celebrating music videos became a thing. And so much love for you guys, always.”
The video debuted after Swift received the first Artist Director Honors award for her work directing music videos. Johnson presented the award to her.
Patient Zero arrived as a single on Friday and appears among four new songs on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.
