Rosie O'Donnell has publicly apologised to Wynonna Judd after mistakenly assuming the singer supported U.S. President Donald Trump.
During an August appearance on The Tangle podcast, the comedian, who has been outspoken against Trump, described Judd as one of the few people in her life who backed him.
Discussing their friendship with host Kyle Ridley, she said: "Now, I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I've known her for many, many years. And she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow, we never bring it up. I give her a grace in a way... And I really love her, and I care about her, and, for some reason, I'm able to put that aside when we interact."
In a People interview last week, Judd described herself as "an independent" and explained that she keeps her political views private. O'Donnell then addressed her earlier remarks on Wednesday with an apology to her longtime friend.
Taking to Instagram, the 64 year old wrote: "I was wrong to assume Wy was a Trump supporter just because she performed at marlargo (Mar-a-Lago)." She was referring to Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida. "But as she told me she has sung for seven presidents on both sides of the aisle (sic). My apologies here publicly (as I first made them privately) #friendship - she's touring her new album now - go see her SING like no one else on earth."
A spokesperson for Judd also clarified to Entertainment Weekly that the 62 year old "did not perform for Trump" during her appearance at Mar-a-Lago, which was for a separate event. The representative added that the Tell Me Why singer has performed for seven U.S. presidents throughout her career, including both Democrats and Republicans.
Listeners can now hear Judd’s latest album, The Hard Truth.
