More than 50,000 fans filled Mexico City’s famous Zócalo Square as BTS made a special balcony appearance at the Presidential Palace after meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Fans reportedly began arriving early Wednesday morning, singing BTS songs and chanting the members’ names hours before the group appeared in public.
As soon as BTS stepped onto the balcony, the atmosphere exploded with excitement, transforming the city’s historic centre into one of the biggest fan gatherings Mexico City has seen in years.
Before greeting supporters outside, the group spent around 40 minutes meeting privately with President Sheinbaum after accepting an official invitation from her administration.
The president had previously confirmed the visit during her daily “Mañanera” press briefing, where she praised BTS for creating music that “delivers messages of friendship, peace, and love.”
During the appearance, RM spoke to the crowd in Spanish and thanked fans for the overwhelming support.
“Thank you very much for inviting us. We are looking forward to the start of our concerts. We are deeply grateful. Thank you very much,” he said.
President Sheinbaum later shared that she hopes the global superstars will return again next year.
“I have already asked BTS to come again next year,” she revealed.
The massive turnout highlighted BTS’ continued dominance in Mexico, where the group remains one of the country’s most streamed artists. According to the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce, their concerts are expected to generate approximately $115.3 million for the local economy.
El Universal also reported that Mexico City ranks as the number one city globally for BTS streams on Spotify, contributing more than 606 million plays.
Demand for tickets to the group’s ARIRANG WORLD TOUR shows on May 7, 9 and 10 has been enormous. More than one million fans reportedly attempted to secure roughly 150,000 available seats, while all three concerts at Estadio GNP Seguros sold out in just 37 minutes, marking one of the fastest concert sell outs Mexico has experienced in recent years.
BTS’ stop in Mexico City is already being viewed as one of the defining moments of their current world tour.
