Barry Gibb is alive and well despite false rumours circulating online claiming the Bee Gees icon had died.
The 79 year old music legend became the latest celebrity targeted by a viral death hoax over the weekend after misleading social media posts began spreading across the internet.
According to family sources who spoke with TMZ, Gibb is “healthy, happy, and living life at his Miami area home,” shutting down the false claims about his death.
The rumours appeared to gain momentum on Sunday after a Facebook page titled “R.I.P. Barry Gibb” reportedly attracted close to one million likes. The page, which has since been removed, included a fabricated story claiming the singer had passed away earlier that same day.
Even after the original page disappeared, the false reports continued circulating across social media platforms and online forums, with several Facebook users reposting the claims alongside AI generated images of Gibb.
Barry rose to worldwide fame during the 1960s as one of the founding members of the Bee Gees alongside his younger brothers Robin and Maurice Gibb. Together, the trio released some of disco’s most iconic songs, including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and “You Should Be Dancing.”
Barry is now the only surviving member of the group. Maurice Gibb died in 2003 at the age of 53, while Robin Gibb passed away in 2012 at 62 years old.
He is also one of several celebrities who have recently been caught up in viral online death hoaxes, joining stars such as Justin Bieber, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, and Michael J. Fox who have all faced similar false reports.
