Paul McCartney is set to share a rare and personal look into his musical journey during a special edition of Tracks of My Years with Vernon Kay.
The special was announced during Vernon’s mid morning radio show, with the legendary songwriter recording an in depth conversation centered around the ten songs that helped shape his life and career. The full interview will air on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25, 2026, giving listeners a closer look at the inspirations behind one of music’s most influential figures.
Vernon described the experience as “extra special” and admitted he was briefly starstruck sitting down with the former The Beatles icon. Throughout the conversation, McCartney reflects on his upbringing in Liverpool and his earliest memories of music, while revisiting key moments from his Beatles years, solo career and songwriting legacy. Fans will also hear stories involving artists like The Rolling Stones and The Kinks, along with memories of meeting legends including Elvis Presley, Brian Wilson and Bob Dylan.
McCartney’s playlist highlights a wide mix of influences, from classic rock and roll staples like Be-Bop-a-Lula by Gene Vincent and That'll Be the Day by Buddy Holly to synth pop tracks from The Human League. The final selection is especially emotional, ending with Imagine by John Lennon as a tribute to his longtime friend and former bandmate.
The broadcast arrives only days before the release of McCartney’s upcoming album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which is scheduled to drop on May 29 and marks his first studio album in more than five years.
After the premiere airs at 6:00 PM on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, shorter daily episodes will continue during Vernon’s morning programme between May 26 and May 29. Fans who want to watch the full conversation will also be able to stream the interview on BBC iPlayer.
As Paul McCartney steps into another new chapter of his career, the special serves as a reminder of the musical legacy that first began in a small Liverpool home nearly seventy years ago.
