System Of A Down have revealed a special reissue of ‘Toxicity’ and a new merchandise collection to celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary.
The celebrations mark a quarter of a century since the band released their second studio record on September 4, 2001.
Last week, the group introduced an exclusive anniversary range featuring vinyl records, CDs, T shirts, skate decks, ashtrays and other collectibles.
The updated CD edition includes fresh cover art and a corrected title for the hidden track fans previously knew as ‘Arto’. It now appears as ‘Der Voghormia’, taking its name from a traditional Armenian hymn.
For vinyl collectors, the album returns in a special coloured pressing accompanied by a bonus seven inch record featuring ‘Johnny’. The track was previously restricted to rare special editions of ‘Toxicity’.
The clothing range also revisits the album’s 2001 release party, which police famously shut down. Fans can now buy a reproduction of the T shirt originally handed out only to people who attended.
Other additions include ‘Chop Suey!’ earrings shaped like Chinese takeaway cartons, a compact mirror, and fresh T shirt and hoodie designs. The full selection of merchandise and physical releases is available here.
‘Hypnotize’, released in 2005, remains System Of A Down’s most recent studio album. During a 2024 conversation with NME, Shavo Odadjian addressed what might bring the group back together to release new music. “If I knew, I’d make it happen,” he said. “If it happens, we’ll all be at the right place, at the right time, in the right mood, at the right juncture in life.”
The band’s recent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium performance earned five stars from NME, with the review concluding that they “ultimately defy and redefine what stadium rock is and can be.”
